Okay, so this is more of a play on words. All the song titles have the word "one" somewhere… As One – Big Mama English| Pop/Rock The mix of rock-ish elements with the violin and more classical elements make me think of a more indie label sound. It’s got a decent beat and it does want to make you kind of want to get up and move. The English is a little tough to understand at times, but you can make out enough of it to get the meaning of the song. I can picture it as being the opening theme to an anime with more fantasy elements in it. One Sugar Dream – M-Flo Japanese | Pop It’s a nice, mellow mid-tempo song and the girl’s vocals (don’t actually know who’s singing, sorry) mesh in quite well with the background. I really like the acoustic guitar and simple percussion which make up the majority of the accompaniment, with the violins adding accents. One – Bi / Rain Korean | Pop I think it’s a nice mid-tempo song, but not overly memorable (I like a couple of his other songs better). I do like the fact that he doesn’t try to go into the upper register too often (his mid-range stuff sounds better) and the instruments are relatively simple though. You Are the No. 1 – Bonnie Pink feat. Kreva Japanese | Pop I kind of wish there was either more of a contrast between Bonnie Pink’s and Kreva’s voices, or that they meshed more…I think it’s because I don’t think of Bonnie Pink as an R&B singer (in comparison to Daichi Miura). It’s still a decent song to listen to though, even though it’s not high on my list of favorite collaborations. One Moment – Monkey Majik English | Pop I think the best element of the song is the guitar and how, with the piano, gives it a kind of jazzy/bluesy kind of feel. It’s a nice mid-tempo song, the kind you’d listen to if you were reminiscing about past loves while you’re out on the patio staring up at the stars. Labels: Big Mama, Bonnie Pink, Contributor; Carmi, Kreva, m-flo, Monkey Majik, Rain First off, I’m so sorry that this post is late. I’ve been having sleeping issues lately (mostly due to work stuff). Before I get on with the rotation, I'm planning to do an all request mix in the next while. If you'd like a particular song included, please leave a comment for this post (leave a comment anyway if you like any of the songs). Anyway, on with the rotation. Tank – Seatbelts English| Big Band(?) The beginning part where the guy talks and says, “I think it’s time we blow this scene. Get everybody and their stuff together. Okay. 3, 2, 1, let’s jam,” makes me think of my morning commute and what I do to get going. It doesn’t feel so much like a mad dash out the door but more like a smooth-ish escapade, kind of like the song. It’s got a good beat, not overly loud but definitely something that makes you want to get up and move. I kind of picture this song to apply more to someone that lives in an urban setting or someone that has to deal with a bunch of stuff (read: people, traffic, pets, etc.) to get somewhere. Fly – Monkey Majik Japanese | Pop This is me on my morning train (it actually leaves at 7:35 as opposed to 7:30, which is the time mentioned in the song), mellowed out and relaxing now that I’ve gotten myself a seat. The song is pretty simple and the beat is mid-tempo with a nice transition to Japanese (the first verse is entirely in English). Kimi, Meguru, Boku – Hata Motohiro Japanese | Pop A nice upbeat song that I listen to if I’m in a good mood in the morning (happens very rarely as I’m not a morning person). It’s upbeat but simple with a lot of emphasis on the acoustic guitar and drums. There isn’t anything overly special that makes this song stand out but still, it’s worth listening to if you want something lighthearted. New Dawn – Bonnie Pink Japanese | Pop This isn’t one of her more famous songs (this was never released as a single) but it’s a nice mellow song to listen to in the morning. I do like the base line in this song – it’s what gives the song depth, especially since it contrasts so nicely to Bonnie’s voice. If you don’t like the sliding guitars sound, you might want to skip the song since it’s prevalent in the chorus. Happy People – Skoop on Somebody Japanese | Pop This is another song that has an emphasis on the acoustic guitar (as far as I can tell anyway). It’s a nice, simple, happy song that’s in the mid-tempo range. Nothing fancy, just…well, happy. In a way, it’s kind of along the same lines as Motohiro’s song, just with the addition of a turntable and with lower range vocals. I think of this song when the sun’s out and there’s been a streak of warm weather. Labels: Bonnie Pink, Contributor; Carmi, Hata Motohiro, Monkey Majik, Seatbelts, Skoop on Somebody Jingle Bells – SM Town Korean | Pop Okay. This is an old song (in the opening they talk about it being the last Christmas before the millennium) but I think one of the better ones. It’s nice, festive, and upbeat with a lot of the older SME people. Christmas With You – Se7en Korean | Pop This is a nice, romantic, slow-ish song. I love Se7en’s voice in this song: it’s sweet and mellow. The background instruments definitely support and don’t overwhelm his voice. Let It Snow – Bonnie Pink English | Jazz Normally I don’t like remakes of classic songs that have been around for a while, but I did like this jazz one. Bonnie’s accent isn’t that pervasive so you shouldn’t notice it too much if you normally are picky about that kind of thing. It’s fairly upbeat as well so it’s not a bore even though the middle is laden with both a jazz and piano solo (both are short though). Silent Night, Holy Night - DBSK Korean | Pop This is one of the few slow-ish “traditional” holiday songs I enjoy. It’s a good acapella song and you can definitely picture (okay, more like wish) that they were the ones caroling at your door. White Light – Namie Amuro Japanese | Pop I actually first heard the “Nobody” rendition of this song as opposed to this version (weird, I know). It’s a sweet, simple song for the holidays that I think could be at the end of an shojo anime for their Christmas special. Sorry this post is late. I've been sick the past few days (just in time for the holidays...sigh). Labels: Amuro Namie, Bonnie Pink, Contributor; Carmi, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Se7en, SM Town Acoustics (Carmi's rotation)

사랑이라는건(Sarangiraneun Geon - Acoustic Version) – Bi/Rain Korean | Pop I like both this version and its original but definitely prefer this one. It conjures up a picture of Rain sitting in a small studio setting with a few band mates singing this song. The opening guitar is nice and mellow and the rest of the instruments add to its jazzy-ish sound. Manic Monday – Bonnie Pink English | Pop Yes, it’s a remake of the famous Bangles song. I actually really like this song, so much so that I will listen to this on those horrid Monday mornings where I really don’t want to go to work. It’s a much mellower and slower version of the original, with the first two verses focusing on the acoustic guitar, base, piano, and drums. Knock Knock Knock (Piano Version) – Daichi Miura Japanese | Pop (R&B) I prefer this version to the original, more upbeat version. The piano and keyboard (higher-pitched keys) provide a simple accompaniment to Daichi’s voice but bring out the best in the song. It gives the song a moodier and sadder quality, which seems to give it more weight. Life Goes On (D Side) – Chemistry Japanese | Pop A nice, mellow version of the opening theme to “Antique Bakery”. The slower beat and Chemistry’s voices without the electronic overlay found in the “K Side” mix make the song seem more sincere than the upbeat electronic-ish pop version (although I like that version better). This Song – 2AM Korean | Pop I really wanted to finish off with a more upbeat number but I ended up with this song instead. It’s a really heartfelt song and the words could almost make you cry. The boys’ voices mesh really well with the background. Labels: 2AM, Bonnie Pink, Chemistry, Contributor; Carmi, Miura Daichi, Rain Rotation 21 is unthemed. The next rotation I do will probably be winter/Christmas themed. A few songs are recent releases, a few are just old favourites. I tried to get a nice mix of genres as well as languages. Songs are organized in alphabetical order by artist name. It was hard for me to pick recommendations, I liked many of the songs in this rotation. A few requested songs are also included in a separate section at the bottom. I stand free - ACIDMAN ![]() Japanese | Rock Ballad Ah, it’s been a while since I heard a good rock ballad. I stand free doesn’t disappoint. Mature, slightly husky vocals, a unique and lovely bass line, and a soaring yet controlled chorus made this song stand out to me. Ni6etalk (Heart Beat) - Apls ![]() Korean | Electronica This group has definitely changed a lot. Their previous album showed a fun, upbeat sound while their latest mini-album, which Ni6etalk is from, is much more downtempo. The atmosphere of the song is just amazing - mysterious, pulsing. The vocals are minimal. It might be too experimental for some, but I loved it. All the Way - Craig David ft. Bonnie Pink English/Japanese | R&B/Pop This was definitely not a collab I would have expected, but their light, smooth voices compliment each other well. The lyrics of the song seem to suggest a stronger beat, Get up, now everybody, get up, move your body, cause we’re going all the way the song seems quite relaxed to me. Although I actually didn’t like this song much upon initially hearing it, it’s starting to grow on me. Passion Fruit - Fuji Fabric ![]() Japanese | Rock/Electronica An extremely catchy, addictive song from Fuji Fabric - in my opinion, they’re under appreciated. The opening verse is just so fun, popping out throughout the song. It will get stuck in your head. I would call them more rock, but this song definitely has traces of electronica/disco. 愛NEED - Kimaguren (AiNEED) Japanese | Reggae/Hip Pop/Rock I absolutely love their unique style of island-influenced rock. A breath of fresh air. Traces of Latin influence linger in the rhythms and beats. It’s lively yet relaxing at the same time, if that makes any sense. Recommended. Apologize - One Republic ![]() English | Rock I was reluctant to upload this song since I’m pretty sure most of you have already heard it, but I really couldn’t think of a better song to upload. I’ve been listening to this song a lot lately, I don’t know why. The chorus is just beautiful and will stay in your head. There’s a version of this song that was remixed by Timbaland, I believe this is the original. The lyrics are bittersweet: I’d take another chance, take a fall, take a shot for you/I need you like a heart needs a beat, it’s nothing new But It’s Better If You Do - Panic! At The Disco English | Pop/Rock I’m went through a stage of loving this band, a longer stage of hating them, and now I think they’re all right. But It’s Better If You Do is confident, and pulsing with energy. This track is from their debut album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out. The Piano Knows Something I Don’t Know - Panic At The Disco English | Pop/Rock From their latest album, Pretty. Odd., The Piano Knows Something I Don’t Know shows the transformation in their sound, replacing synthesizers and electric guitar with trumpets and classical guitar. Brendon Urie’s vocals have also matured a lot. Laid-back, still sure of itself but no longer brazen, The Piano Knows Something I Don’t Know is a good reflection of their new image. 心里的狮子 - Peter Pan (Xin Li De Shi Zi/Heart Of A Lion) ![]() Mandarin | Pop/Ballad Although the most common English translation for this song is Heart Of A Lion, it is actually closer to The Lion Within Your Heart, which is backed by the lyrics, which speak of doing something you’ve always wanted to do, but never had the courage to. The song has a certain regretful tone to it, but builds more and more to a soaring and hopeful chorus. Namida (Sleepless Night MANABOON MIX) - Tanaka Roma ![]() Japanese | R&B/Ballad My favourite Tanaka Roma song, by far. Although I’m quite fond of most of his songs, this one just stands out to me. I heard this mix before hearing the original. This version of Namida is heartbreakingly genuine and raw with emotion. The accompaniment is kept light, mainly just piano. The title of the remix, Sleepless Night, fits it perfectly. Tanaka’s voice has the perfect balance of vulnerability and power that just doesn’t shine through as much in the original, which has a stronger accompaniment and more of a poppy, R&B influence. r e q u e s t s Maiden Voyage - Missing Island Korean | Easy Listening/Bossa Nova If you liked the Coffee Prince OST, you’ll probably like this song. It does have a certain adventurous feel that fits its name, but is laid-back and makes for a nice, light listen. THE BUNGY - NICO Touches the Walls SIMON SAID - NICO Touches the Walls Japanese | Rock THE BUNGY is fresh and has an infectious beat. It has a bit of a Western/country feel to it, yet keeps the distinct vibe of Japanese rock. SIMON SAID has an aggressive sound, contrasting a dark, rumbling bass with melodic guitar riffs. Koi wo Shiteru - ROUND TABLE feat. Nino Symphony - ROUND TABLE feat. Nino Takaramono (Homemade Demo Version) - ROUND TABLE feat. Nino (Treasures) Japanese | Pop Koi wo Shiteru is a sweet pop song, but the vocals were a tad too little-girl-ish for my liking. Symphony is laid-back and downtempo. I found it a bit repetitive, but I liked it. Takaramono (Homemade Demo Version) has an unpolished, acoustic feel to it, as the name suggests. I’m a sucker for acoustic songs, so it won’t surprise you to hear that out of these three songs Takaramono was my favourite. Labels: ACIDMAN, Apls, Bonnie Pink, Craig David, Fuji Fabric, Kimaguren, Missing Island, NICO Touches the Walls, One Republic, Panic At The Disco, Peter Pan, ROUND TABLE feat. Nino, Tanaka Roma Rotation 17 is the first of a two-part rotation, featuring an artist for each letter of the alphabet. My themes just keep getting worse and worse, huh? XD Anyways, the artists were pretty much chosen at random. Some are songs that I don't even remember listening to before; I tried to upload some more rock since recently I've been uploading a lot of pop music. Because the theme focuses on the artist names, I switched around the order - it goes artist name/song name. =) A! Analog Fish - Sayonara 90's Japanese | Alt Rock This is from Nano-Mugen Compilation 2008. I've heard of most of the groups on this album - AKFG, ELLEGARDEN, ART-SCHOOL, etc. but never heard of these guys. If you're a fan of Asian Kung-Fu Generation you'll probably like them. The remind me a little of Kimaguren, too. (& don't they have an awesome name?) B! Bonnie Pink - Kane wo Narashite Japanese | Pop An energetic, upbeat pop song, IIRC it was for an Xbox 360 game, The Tales of Vesperia. Makes for a fun, light-hearted listen, but not oustanding. C! Captain Straydum - Pera Pera ![]() Japanese | Rock I love this band. <3 Upbeat, fun rock that you can't help but tap your feet to. I dunno, I've heard them called pop-rock, alt rock, whatever. They're awesome. D! doa - RUNAWAY ![]() Japanese | Alt Rock Melancholic, bittersweet, and extremely heartfelt. I love this song, I don't think I've ever heard a doa song I didn't like. Try this out. E! E Z Hyoung - In My Eyes ![]() Korean | Soft Rock Another one of my favourite artists. This is from his second album which recently released. I absolutely love his voice, even if it seems a bit plain at first. Recommended. F! F.T. Island - 사랑후애 (譃愛/After Love) ![]() Korean | Pop I don't care if they play instruments, I will never be able to see F.T. Island as "rock". Despite not liking the group very much, I do like some of their songs. After Love is a heartfelt, powerful ballad, despite being somewhat predictable. Hongki's voice has developed a lot. G! Guyz - You Mean Everything to Me Korean | Rock K-rock ftw. <3 Light-hearted and a little poppy, I thought it was decent, but not their best. H! HeaRt - Sophia Japanese | Rock Reminded me kind of something that would be an anime theme song. Love their vocalist, although the song itself is a bit simple. I! Instant Romantic Floor - Instant Cafe ![]() Korean | Electronica/Lounge Their music is always so unique. A bit of an acquired taste, but I like them. =) J! Jason Mraz - I'm Yours ![]() English | Acoustic Pop I love this song. It's simple, the lyrics are cliched, but it's so sweet. Jason Mraz has such a unique voice and style. Highly recommended. K! Kim Sarang ft. Yoon Do Hyun - With or Without You ![]() Korean | Soft Rock A cover of U2's song by the same name. This was ripped from a performance, so it's not crystal-clear. Another favourite of mine, I just love the chord progressions in this song. Their English is flawless, too. L! Lisa feat. Park Hyo Shin - With You ![]() Korean | Ballad I uploaded this song because of Park Hyo Shin, who is one of my favourite vocalists. I actually quite liked this song, which is saying quite a bit considering I'm not really a ballad fan. Lisa's voice is sweet but powerful, and very mature. Park Hyo Shin lends his deep, husky vocals in contrast. A great collaboration. M! My Little Airport - Graduation Means Unemployment Cantonese | Alt Rock I've never been a big fan of songs in Cantonese; this is probably the only Cantonese song I've ever uploaded. My Little Airport is just so cute, their song names always make me smile. There's probably more recommended songs ( ) this week than ones without a recommendation. XP Oh well. Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment. =)Labels: Analog Fish, Bonnie Pink, Captain Straydum, doa, E Z Hyoung, F.T. Island, Guyz, HeaRt, Instant Romantic Floor, Jazon Mraz, Kim Sarang, Lisa, My Little Airport 約束 (Yakusoku/Promise) - mihimaru GT Kicking off with a music-box-esque tune, this is a cute song that lacks much variation. The overly-cutesy voices in the background occasionally yelling "whoa" and "yay" get a bit annoying, and don't really seem to add much to the song. I think this is one of mihimaru GT's older songs. Their vocalist has a nice voice, though it lacks much emotion or feeling, making singing seem like a bit of a chore - Yakusoku seems to call for a carefree lightness to the vocals that is obviously missing. Overall rating: 3/5 Love Letter (Winter Acoustic Mix) - BoA 会いたい (Aitai) - Younha infection - Chihiro Onitsuka Story - AI Gimme A Beat - Bonnie Pink I LOVE YOU - Mika Nakashima Labels: AI, BoA, Bonnie Pink, Chihiro Onitsuka, mihimaru GT, Mika Nakashima, Younha |
