Hi, I got back from my vacation yesterday night. I'm still pretty tired, so there's only a few songs for you guys, but they're all favourites of mine so hopefully you'll like them.

I'm having some issues with Mediafire right now, which is why I used box.net to upload these songs. I'm considering which of these three albums to upload in full, so if there's anything in particular that you liked & want the full album, just let me know. =)

- Haruhi

Wonderful Tonight (O.S. Eric Clapton) - Khalil Fong [listen to original @ YT]
Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You (O.S. George Benson) - Khalil Fong [listen to the original @ YT]
English | Pop/Soft Rock

I love Khalil Fong's new cover album, Timeless, where both these songs are from. For those of you who aren't familiar with Khalil, he's a phenomenal R&B/soul singer from Hong Kong [more@last.fm]. I've uploaded a few of his songs before, he's one of my favourite artists. I was so excited to see a new release from him, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I've heard the original version of Wonderful Tonight, by Eric Clapton, a few times, although I'm not too familiar with it - one of those songs where you remember the main melody but not much else. Whether you're familiar with the original or not, Khalil Fong's cover definitely does it justice. The accompaniment is modernized, with the guitars less dreamy/twangy, and Khalil's voice is crisper and smoother than Clapton's - though just as warm and genuine. A soft, slow song thats beauty lies in its subtleties. Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You, originally by George Benson, is another song that, even if you don't think you've heard before, you probably have - it's very familiar, and Khalil's cover stays quite true to the original, although the original seems to be more piano-based, where Khalil's version incorporates guitar and percussion into the arrangement. It's really the difference in vocal styles that sets his cover apart - Khalil's voice doesn't have the sheer creamy, powerful richness of George Benson's, but his execution is clear and clean. Khalil's version is definitely more contemporary and seems a little more tightly put together, but the original by George Benson is gorgeous too.

阿飛的小蝴蝶 - Jam Hsiao (A-Fei's Little Butterfly)
Mandarin | Pop/Rock

I previously shared the title track, Princess, from this album, but this is really my favourite song from it. 阿飛的小蝴蝶 is a piano-based, mid-tempo soft rock track. Jam Hsiao's voice is sincere and strong, and I love the chorus. Recommended.

牧羊少年的奇幻之旅 - A-Chord (Little Shepherd's Fantasy Journey)
关于 - A-Chord (Related to)
Mandarin | Pop/Rock

I recently discovered A-Chord's debut album, titled Nothing But A Chord, and I love it. Although this is his first album, he's not a newcomer to the music scene, having composed songs for other artists and also acting in a few dramas. 牧羊少年的奇幻之旅 is the opening track, and it really hooked me. The warm, piano-based intro, leading into A-Chord's strong voice, is just gorgeous. Some verses are sung-spoken, almost rapped, and others are clear and melodic. It's very refreshing. 关于 picks up the tempo a bit. It's fun, confident, and breezy, but cuts no corners - the cool, Latin-influenced arrangement, coupled with A-Chord's crisp singing, makes for an innovative, fresh song.

[rotation 36] haruhi's top ten

I took this idea from an LJ community, basically it’s just ten of the songs that I really like & have constantly been listening to in the last few weeks. Most will probably be fairly recent releases. I excluded songs that I had already posted, which prevented the two Kimaguren songs I posted previously and St. Day from making the list.

I'm putting off the rock/pop rotation I mentioned earlier for another time. & sorry my comments aren't too great ... for some reason I never have a problem with commenting on smaller updates but when it comes to larger rotations I just get kind of tired and all my comments start to sound the same, haha.

Please remember to comment/leave a rating if taking, thanks.

#10. City of Sadness - Zhang Yuan
Mandarin | Ballad
A solo song by Top Combine’s main vocalist, Zhang Yuan. Although I’m not very familiar with the group, Zhang Yuan’s voice is lovely - strong, rich, and rounded. Despite the formulaic arrangement, I really liked the chorus and overall sad yet hopeful atmosphere of the song.

#9. 爱上 (Fall In Love With) - Xiao Yu
Mandarin | R&B/Pop
I really loved his sophomore album, Standing Here, and “Fall In Love With” is one of my favourite tracks. It’s a sweet, mid-tempo number. The piano accompaniment is warm and adds a nice depth to the song, but what I really love is Xiao Yu’s smooth, creamy vocals.

#8. 너라고 (It's You) - Super Junior
Korean | Pop
Upon first listen, I really didn’t think this song was anything special, but it’s really grown on me. The transition from the slower and more serious opening verses into the uptempo chorus is fantastic. The mood brightens at certain points in the song, becoming more hopeful and optimistic, and the accompaniment has strong electronica routes. It’s quite poppy like most of their material, but also more mature and sophisticated.

#7. 王妃 (Princess) - Jam Hsiao
Mandarin | Rock
I’m quite a fan of him, and was excited to see his new album. Princess is the title track. Jam Hsiao spans many genres, but my favourite of his would be rock, and Princess is not a disappointment. The song sounds slightly familiar, but is definitely unique. Jam Hsiao’s voice is slightly rough, suiting the atmosphere perfectly.

#6. 정신없이 예뻐 (Crazily Pretty) - DNT
Korean | Pop
I just love the chord progressions of this song, especially in the synths that dominate the opening. It’s an upbeat track that’s catchy and danceable, but doesn’t offer much beyond that. The vocals are decent (I believe they have a new member, too?) but not outstanding - personally, I would have liked to see a little more harmonizing. Nonetheless, a fresh, summery song.

#5. The Road - Clazziquai
English | Electronica
I love Clazziquai, and I was so excited to give their new album a listen (come to think of it, quite a few artists that I like have released albums/singles lately). “The Road” is one of my favourite tracks from Mucho MUSICA, it’s slow, ambient, and incredibly genuine. It’s one of the more downtempo tracks on the album, but extremely powerful, and something about its darker atmosphere really just caught on to me. The lyrics (and Alex’s voice) are gorgeous too, all in (perfectly understandable) English.

#4. Hello, I'm in Delaware - City and Colour
English | Acoustic
I used to really like this band, but it’s been a while since I listened to them. A soft, understated song. It’s really the lyrics that I love - So there goes my life/passing by with every exit sign .../No sleep tonight, I’ll keep on driving these dark highway lines. Although it doesn’t really have a clear “direction” and might be a little bland to some, I really liked it.

#3. 海岸中央通り - kimaguren
Japanese | Reggae/Pop/Rock
An island-flavoured song, a little more upbeat than the two I uploaded previously from their Sora x Shonen album. 海岸中央通り features fresh, breezy arrangement, smooth crisp vocals, and trumpet riffs.

#2. 你很好 (You're Very Good) - Xiao Yu
Mandarin | Pop/R&B
Opening with gorgeous harmonies against a chordal piano arrangement, You’re Very Good transitions into a smooth and rich R&B song. If you think about all the elements separately, there’s really nothing outstanding about it: a fairly standard R&B-style beat, boomy bass, splashes of piano - but everything just comes together perfectly. Xiao Yu’s voice is, as always, lovely - smooth and rich. It’s a catchy, memorable song.

#1. Africa - Karl Wolf ft. Culture
English | Pop/R&B
I’m not really sure what genre this song would be - it’s a remake, the original artist was Toto. I love it - the many-layered harmonies in the sung verses are simply gorgeous. The melody always gets stuck in my head. Although the rap verses don’t do much for me, they definitely add depth and colour to the song.

maintenance/bonus songs

Thanks to Sara who pointed out a mistake in one of my previous rotations (rotation 23), the link to Fahrenheit's 恆星 lead to a different song. I've fixed it in the rotation but here it is again.

恆星/Heng Xing/Shining Star - Fahrenheit

Please do let me know if any links are broken or lead to the wrong file!

I've also added tags to some previous rotations that, for whatever reason, were untagged.

Just so that this post isn't completely useless, here's a couple songs:

給。愛人 - Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰)
So this guy is way underappreciated, and I seem to remember the last time I uploaded one of his songs it was well received. I think this is his latest single, although I could be wrong. I have to say this wasn't really one of my favourite songs by him, but it's all right.

사랑해.. 그래서 미안해 (feat. Suho) - Kim Dong Hee (I Love You ... So I'm Sorry)
이번만은 (feat. Noblesse) - Kim Dong Hee (Only This Time)
This is Kim Dong Hee's Love in Winter single. A precaution: the translations of the title could be wrong, I'm going from my own shaky understanding of Korean. Please correct me if they are. I'm not a big fan of female vocalists (I've probably said this before), but I really like Kim Dong Hee's voice. Both fairly typical songs - the first (with SuHo) poppy, the second (with Noblesse) a ballad - but worth a listen.

Please remember to comment or even leave a rating if you're downloading anything. ^_^

rotation 19 [a touch of colour]

Rotation 19 is a touch of colour, featuring song names that contain colours. Along with the new rotation is a new layout, featuring Lee Jun Ki. Also, we have a new cohost, Aranka, who will probably be introducing herself soon. =)

22 songs this rotation, definitely one of the larger rotations I've done. Please remember to leave a comment or rating.

Red Soul - AAA
Japanese | Pop
AAA's style varies so much, I never know what to expect from them. Red Soul is rock-influenced and upbeat. It sounds like something out of a video game or anime. A fun listen, but not exceptional.

Red Hot - ELLEGARDEN
English | Alt Rock
This is the original version, not the remastered one. I love ELLEGARDEN's unique sound and style, it killed me to hear that they were going on "hiatus". Although they're a Japanese group, this song is in English. Takeshi's voice is raw and powerful.

醉赤壁 (Drunk Red Cliff) - JJ Lin
Mandarin | Ballad
This track is from JJ Lin's new album, Sixology. The intro incorporates traditional Chinese instruments, which make small appearances throughout the song. A nice ballad, not overloaded with influences of classical Chinese music yet touching on them all the same.

Red Room - Lolita23q
Japanese | Rock
One of my favourite VK groups. Red Room doesn't waste any time, jumping right into a noisy, fast-paced rock number. It's a little repetitive, but I enjoyed it.

Mirage in Blue - Chemistry
Japanese | Pop/R&B
A sweet, poppy song, accompanied with acoustic guitar. The sparse accompaniment allows their vocals to shine through. Recommended.

BLUE VACATION - BOØWY
Japanese | Rock
'90's rock just has that ... feel to it. Haha, not really my kind of thing, but it's fun as an occasional listen.

Blue & Green Waves - DE DE MOUSE
Japanese | Electronica
I'm loving the variety of genres this theme allows. DE DE MOUSE has an experimental, fresh sound. It's an acquired taste, but give them a shot if you're a fan of electronica.

Blue Doors Ahead - F.I.R.
Mandarin & English | Pop
This is probably the only time you'll see me upload F.I.R., I'm not a huge fan of them. A downtempo jazz track, Blue Doors Ahead is relaxing and strong vocally, but not overly memorable.

Blues - Jam Hsiao
Mandarin | Rock
An underrated but up and rising star in the C-pop industry, Jam Hsiao's style varies from pop to ballad to, as is the case with Blues, rock. It sounds better when you listen to it with the rest of the album, where it stands out more against the ballad/pop tracks. But, a good song nonetheless.

Deep Blue - Vidoll
Japanese | Rock
Eh, I'm kind of iffy on Vidoll. Some of their songs I love, others, not so much. Deep Blue is kind of in-between, I thought it was decent but not great. The bass-heavy accompaniment kind of drones out the already whisper-y vocals.

Green Apple - Ynot?
Korean | Rock
This rotation is pretty low on Korean songs, I noticed. A light-hearted rock song reminiscent of summer. I quite like this group.

Green Rivers - Pia
Korean | Rock Ballad
Pia is probably one of the more well-known K-rock groups. Green Rivers is a strong rock ballad. It sounded a little bland to me at first listen, but it's starting to grow on me.

Green Requiem - Joe Hisaishi
Instrumental | Piano
A relaxing piano piece. If you like Yiruma, you'll probably like Joe Hisaishi.

Yellow Beauty - LM.C
Japanese | Rock
Typical LM.C, jumps at you right from the start. It dies down a bit, showing impressive changes in tempo and mood. Recommended.

Yellow Butterfly - Fly to the Sky
Korean | R&B/Ballad
I love this duo. Yellow Butterfly varies - at times a sweet acoustic ballad with a sparse guitar accompaniment, at others an almost upbeat R&B song. Beautiful vocal work, as usual. Not my favourite song by them, but it's pretty good.

Purple Rain - Shin Hye Sung
Korean | Ballad
Pretty typical ballad, HyeSung's voice is beautiful and strong in parts but can barely be heard in others.

Purple Apple - the pillows
Japanese | Alt Rock
From the pillows' latest album, PIED PIPER, Purple Apple is typical to the pillows' style - quirky and fresh. I love the bass line and bright guitar chords.

Orange Evolution - ALvino
Japanese | Rock
I don't remember where I first heard of these guys, but I love them. They're a rock group but not VK, their sound is a little more mainstream. The chorus is genuine and memorable, although overall I wouldn't say this is one of their best songs.

Orange Dream - Antic Cafe
Japanese | Oshare kei
It's been so long since I heard a slower track from anCafe. It does build more and more, but differs from their usual fare in that it's much more serious in tone. Their sound has matured a lot. I love the piano accompaniment in this song. IMO, a very impressive track.

Orange - BRIGHT
Japanese | Pop
I'm not a fan of girl-groups, but I like BRIGHT for their great vocal work. A breezy R&B song, Orange features beautiful harmonizing. The melody and composition of the song itself isn't the most memorable though.

Orange Parade - Ichigo69
Japanese | Rock
More upbeat, in your face rock. Personally it was a little too messy for me, I found the bass of the song to be lacking - there was no real foundation, although it does even out a little. The slightly off-key vocals and random squeals from the guitar are kind off-putting. Part of the song sound almost ... fast-forwarded. O_o Definitely interesting, but I found it too jarring.

ORANGE GRADATION - Imitation PoPs Uchuu Sentai NOIZ
Japanese | Rock
I love this band. The song has a nice intro and vocals, it's upbeat and energetic but not overwhelming.

Note: Ichigo69 and Imitation PoPs Uchuu Sentai NOIZ are not tagged in this entry because Blogspot will only let me add 20 tags per post.
