Hi,

As you can see, we have a new layout! I'm going to be going on vacation for 10 days or so starting next Thursday, so I won't be updating during that time. However, we're almost at our 50th rotation and I'm already making some plans for that, it will probably be up sometime after I get back.

I'm a little discouraged by the number of comments lately, thank you to those who do take the time to comment (I notice it's usually the same people) but the ratio of comments to downloads isn't the most encouraging. I don't expect people to comment every single time they take something, but a 'thank you' every once in a while would be nice.

These are some albums I uploaded for an LiveJournal community that I'm a reviewer/uploader at, I thought I might as well share the links here. All are recommended.

Black Pearl - Gogossing
C.N. Blue - Bluelove
DIA - 울어도 울어도

Labels: Black Pearl, C.N. Blue, Dia, misc downloads, site

Hi,

You've probably noticed we have a new layout. Since HaloScan (the system I used for comments) has shut down, I've switched to ReBlogger which is why the comments have reset and there is no longer a rating system. I'm still figuring out how to use/customize it, so please bear with me. =) I know that when you click "journal" and view entries under there, no comment link shows up, but it does when you first enter the site (near the bottom of each post). I'm working on fixing this!

A new rotation will also be up soon, I'm just finishing uploading.

To celebrate 100+ posts (this will be #101), I've decided to do a number lottery. Some of you may be familiar with this concept - if you aren't, basically what you do is choose a number/numbers and I will upload the song from my music library that corresponds.

For example, if you choose the number three I would upload the third song in my iTunes, which is 黑夜以後 by A-Do.

Rules/Process:

one. You may pick up to five numbers.
two. If you wish, you may specify a file host. I will use MediaFire, box.net, or 4shared. If no host site is specified, I'll pick whatever is most convenient for me.
three. Post the numbers in the HaloScan comment box, the cbox (under tab "tagboard), or if you want, e-mail me at tokyomonochrome@gmail.com
four. Numbers must be between 1 and 17388. Try to choose numbers that have not already been chosen, because they'll just be repeats.
five. The lottery will close on September 22nd, two weeks from today.
six. Depending on the number of responses, I will either post up all the songs together and the end of the two-week period, or do them in batches as the days progress.
seven. There will be a list below of numbers that have been picked & who picked them, so that you can check what's already been picked and make sure I saw your post. =)

Hopefully this will help introduce you guys to some new artists/songs!

Picked Numbers:

Lena: 458, 10984, 9458, 888
Stephy: 922, 1024, 777
melody: 84, 10487, 17244, 999
Ayumi: 1657, 157, 2345, 1000
Allie: 10894, 1777, 135, 2626
Phoenix: 12345, 1234, 123, 9876, 444
albeitalways: 107, 1991, 8923, 5439, 132
Nepu: 363, 1796, 6336

1. Vacation
I will be going on vacation from August 6th to around the 11th. I will not be updating the site in that time, but I'll be sure to post something when I get back.

2. New Cohost!
We have a new cohost, Alistere, who will probably be introducing herself soon. ^_^

3. Contributers/Reviewers
I am now, obviously, no longer looking for a cohost, but I have decided that it would be good to have some more people contributing to the site, so I am still looking for contributers. Basically, if you'd be interested in posting occasionally but not the responsibility of having to rotate on a given schedule, or even if you're interested in reviewing songs/singles/albums but don't want to upload. When I return from my vacation I will give more details on this, in the meantime if anyone is interested you can send me an e-mail at tokyomonochrome@gmail.com.

4. Tag Cloud/Label List
I still haven't figured out how to get a tag cloud/label list up for the site. All the codes I've seen seem to work fine for other people, but either because of the layout or something, they don't work on this site. Anyways, you can always click the labels at the bottom of a post if you want to see other posts with that label - but, this makes it impossible to browse through all the tags. For now, you can use the archives to access old posts, but this still isn't very useful if you're looking for something specific.

5. Masterlist
I am thinking about creating a masterlist instead - basically, listing all the songs that have been uploaded and where to find them. This could either be done by rotation or by individual songs, I'm still considering what format would be more efficient and useful.

6. Requests
I have realized that 1. I will never get to typing up ~100GB of music by hand, and 2. Trying to export my library from iTunes to a format where it can just be copied and posted does not work. Most of the requests I fulfill are for people on other sites who are just requesting to anyone on the site - eg. "Does anyone have Room by SID?", so I can just answer the posts that are asking for songs I have - basically, I don't really need to have a playlist, especially if it's going to be extremely time-consuming to create one. You are free to request any Korean, Japanese, or Mandarin (I don't have many Cantonese songs, but you can ask if you want) music from me. If I don't have it, I will try to find it for you. If you hear a song that you like and would like recommendations for more material by that artist, I'd also be happy to help you. =) I don't really care how much you request as long as it's reasonable, and the only thing I really will not upload is full discographies since I generally don't have them.

7. Full Albums
In the last poll I saw that a few people did prefer seeing full albums/singles posted, something that I rarely do. Singles are okay, I've started to post them more more often (as opposed to individual songs) but it's hard for me to find albums that I really enjoy listening to enough to upload every track (I don't really like compressing files into .zip or .rar) and reviewing the whole album too. Also, I think it discourages people to buy the album if they can just download the whole thing. But, I've decided to post up one of my favourite albums maybe once a month or so. Either of my own choice or I may have a poll up sometimes for you guys to pick what you want uploaded.

8. Misc.
Whew, sorry this is so ridiculously long. I don't expect people to read the whole thing or really care about half the stuff I posted, which is why I separated it into sections so you can just read whatever interests/concerns you. Anyways, a little bonus for those of you who actually bothered to read any of this. The p/w is fashionscans (very original, right?). Bodyguard - SHINee, Countdown - SHINee, Minneapolis Control - SOUL'd OUT

Hi,

Just wanted to let you guys know that I will be postponing full rotations until further notice. This does not mean the site is going on hiatus or closing - I will still be posting and updating on a regular basis, but they'll be small updates rather than full 10+ song rotations. Although I have lots of ideas for themes and such, I've been really busy with real life stuff lately (namely the online courses I'm taking) and I haven't really felt inspired to do full-scale rotations - like, I feel like it's something I'm doing because I have to, rather than something I want to. I might be going on vacation soon too, so it's not going to be convenient for me to do large rotations.

Again: I will still be posting music up regularly, but for the moment, they will be smaller-scale posts and not full rotations. =)

In the meantime, some requests I uploaded and was too lazy to make a separate post for:

FREE - Erika
Japanese, Pop-Rock
I have to say I've never been a big fan of her, but FREE is pretty good.

優しい光 (Yasahii Hikari) - EXILE
Japanese, Ballad
A sincere and heartfelt ballad from EXILE's latest single. It seemed a bit boring at first listen, but it's starting to grow on me.

Indian Boy - MC Mong
Luv D.N.A - MC Mong
Korean, Pop/Hip-Hop
I've never been a huge fan of this guy, but his new album is pretty good. Indian Boy is so catchy, definitely my favourite track. <3 It's light-hearted and fun. Luv D.N.A features Navi, I've only listened to it maybe once so I can't say much about it - it's a slightly generic but warm mid-tempo track, very sweet and cute.

We finally have a totally new layout, featuring DBSK with scans from their latest single, Stand By U. Let me know what you think of it! =)

The next rotation won't be up for another couple days, but here's a few requests I uploaded for other sites:

Separation Anxiety - Nell
Korean | Soft Rock
I love this song so much. <3

Shinin' Star - Shinin' Star
Korean | Pop
A relaxing, slow pop song. Don't know much about these guys.

懂爱的孤独 (快版) - HIT-5 (Say You Love Me Again - Fast Version)
懂爱的孤独 (慢版) - HIT-5 (Say You Love Me Again - Slow Version)
SAY YOU LOVE ME AGAIN - HIT-5
I WANT U TO KNOW - HIT-5
Mandarin | Pop
Debut single from boyband HIT-5. There are two versions of the title song and two b-sides.

Part 2 - Nell
Korean | Soft Rock
Some older stuff from Nell.

우울한 너에게 - Mate
Korean | Soft Rock
I heard a lot of good things about these guys, but personally thought they were mediocre for the most part. This is one song that I did really enjoy from their debut album.

Labels: HIT-5, Mate, Nell, Shinin' Star, site

Aranka has decided not to cohost the site any more since she's busy with college, so Fashion Scans is looking for a new cohost.

Being a cohost entails:
- Creating rotations and posting them on the site, one every two weeks.
- This includes uploading the songs, briefly commenting on each, and stating the genre and language of each.
- Size of rotations is really up to you, I try to do a minimum of ten songs for each of my rotations but more/less is fine.
- Must primarily be Korean, Japanese, and Chinese music. Sharing music of other languages on some occasions is all right though.
- I would prefer a bit of variety as far as languages/genre go, eg. not everything you upload is for example all K-pop or all J-rock.
---> I generally make the layouts myself, so knowing how to make and code layouts is not necessary.

How to apply:
Please send all applications to my new e-mail address, tokyomonochrome@gmail.com.
Name: (doesn't have to be your real name, just whatever you'd like to be called)
A little bit about yourself: (a couple sentences is fine)
Your favourite songs:
Your favourite artists:
Sample rotation: (Pick 3 or 4 songs and write a short review for each, similar to the format used in rotations. You do NOT need to upload the songs, just write a quick blurb about them.)

Labels: site

Next rotation will be up probably sometime this week or next week.

There's something wrong with the tags, they're not showing up for some reason. If anyone knows a code for a tag cloud/label list that will work with Blogger classic template please let me know. Thanks. =)

Also I changed the font because it looked really bad in Firefox. O_o I usually use Safari, so I didn't realize until now.

I'm putting fashion scans on a semi-hiatus. I will make small updates occasionally, but not as part of the rotation schedule. Chayenne is also going on vacation from August 16th and will be away for two weeks, so I don't think she'll be able to update the site.

I'm going to be busy in the next few weeks but the site will be back on rotation schedule when school starts. =) Also, the fact that most people don't take the time to comment on rotations is discouraging. Most of the people who comment are those run their own rotation sites.

Expect a small update in the next few days.
