comments. this mix is a bit of an amalgam. i wanted to include songs that provided some sense of comfort, but that doesn't mean they're calming - sometimes, they're only comforting because you've found something that perfectly reflects your mood. at the same time, i didn't want this to be a mix to help you get to sleep. it's more of a mix for understanding that you won't, if that makes sense. near the end of the mix, there's a few brighter, more hopeful songs - perhaps better suited for when the light is beginning to filter in. standouts include the rescues' harmonic, yearning cover of katy perry's teenage dream, regina spektor's dramatic apres moi, katie noonan's silky, rich voice in space between, and chihiro onitsuka's haunting infection. whatever keeps you up at night - i hope this helps.

top ten songs - opinions needed [+2songs]

So I've thought of a new rotation theme, which will actually span multiple rotations. When the new year had just passed I was reading a lot of “Top Ten” lists of 2008 - eg. top movies, top songs. On a lot of forums and blogs, I also saw a lot of lists of “top ___ songs of 2008”, etc. I'll be doing my own version, not limited to songs of 2008 but just in general (so as long as it fits the category, it doesn't matter when it was released). There will also be a finale rotation that will be for a “best album” and some other best/most categories.

I'm interested in hearing what you think - you don't need to post a full list of 10 songs, just any songs that you think deserve to be included in these lists. They will be based only on my opinion, not statistics, but I'd love to hear your opinions. The rotations won't just be 10 songs, I will also include some other songs that almost made the list.

If interest in these themes isn't great, I might only do a couple of the categories.

Here are the categories:
- Ballads (this will be the rotation this weekend, so I've already picked most of the songs for it)
- Catchiest/Best Pop Songs [Korean, Japanese, & Mandarin]
- Rock Songs [Korean, Japanese, or Mandarin]
- Vocal Masterpieces [as in, songs where the vocalist(s) is/are amazing. any language.]

Finale rotation:
- individual songs/albums/artists, not lists of ten.
- Japanese, Korean, & Mandarin only.
Best album:
Best instrumental song:
Best theme song:
Most original/unique song:
Most underrated song:
Most underrated artist:
Best current song:

Two songs for you:
Truth - Yuna Ito
A hopeful ballad. Yuna Ito's voice is smooth and soft, yet strong enough to hold the melody. Although fairly predictable, it's quite a pretty song.

I Want You - Kelly Clarkson
Another song from Clarkson's new album, All I Ever Wanted. A fun, bright pop song with cute riffs and a sun-kissed beat. Clarkson's confident, breezy voice fits the song perfectly. Extremely catchy. <3

kelly clarkson, dynamic duo, sori

A little update for you guys, just four songs that I chose at random out of recent releases that I was listening to. A wide spectrum of artists, also a wide spectrum of quality *coughcoughSORIcoughcough*

Korean | Pop/Dance
입술이 정말 - Sori (Ibseuri jeongmal)
Never heard of her before, but I've heard a lot about how catchy this song is and decided to try it out. Big mistake. It's a little too heavy on the electronica for my taste. Sori, in an attempt to sound sexy, comes off as annoyingly throaty and over-synthesized. The song itself is fairly bland in terms of beat, riffs, and melody. I guess I can see why people might find it catchy as it's somewhat similar to ... I was going to say Wonder Girls but that would be an insult to them. I'm sorry, I just really didn't like this song. But like I said a lot of people thought it was catchy/good, so keep in mind this is just my opinion.

새끼손가락 (이준기/Lee Jun Ki Ver.) - Sori ft. Lee Jun Ki
I only snagged this single for the track Jun Ki is in. I pretty much skipped all the parts that were her singing, because her voice is just so thin, girly, powerless, strained, rangeless ... okay, okay, I'll stop there. Anyways - if not for her voice, which is the reason why I do not like the majority of female pop singers, a poppy song that might have sounded decent if someone else sang it. Jun Ki is good enough at rapping, I guess, compared to most of the other boyband rappers. Jun Ki's verses are worth listening to, but that's about it. (But I will admit to being very biased towards Jun Ki, so I dunno.)

Korean | Hip-Hop
Beyond the Wall (Feat. Supreme Team) - Dynamic Duo
A huge thank you to Dynamic Duo for actually producing music that doesn't make me cringe to listen to. Rapping is spot-on as expected, with a melodic chorus. A bright song with infectious beats. I love the little piano riffs and drums, everything just comes together perfectly.

English | Pop/Rock
Long Shot - Kelly Clarkson
A dark-ish rock-influenced number from Kelly Clarkson's upcoming album, All I Ever Wanted. Something about the way the thick electric guitar fits with the main melody, led by her voice, is just so appealing. She's one of the few mainstream North American pop singers that I like - I will admit the lyrics/melodies can be corny and simple, but her songs are actually, for the most part, decent, IMO. Her voice has matured a lot and, I think, deepened a little too. She's come a long way, try this out.
