Change My World (Steven Chen Drum Cover) – Monkey Majik English | Pop Oddly enough, I didn’t even know this song existed (okay, I ignored it when it first came out for some strange reason) until I heard this drum cover and I was doing “research” for this post. Steven’s rendition is quite close to the original but I do like the extra punch he gives to the song. Balloons (Live Percussion Version) – Tohoshinki Korean| Pop/Rock This is actually the only version of this song that I listen to: it’s mellow and I really like the “lack” of instruments (focuses mostly on percussion and keys). It reminds me of kids selling lemonade during summer and wandering around a fair or a park on a nice afternoon. Go! Go! Maniac (Drum Cover) – K-On! (Toyosaki Aki, Hikasa Yoko, Sato Satomi, Kotobuki Minako, Taketatsu Ayana) Japanese | Pop Oddly enough, I only started listening to this song after I saw a Japanese girl (she was only 13) doing a drum cover. From that point, I got hooked. Normally I’m not into the super high-pitched singers but I paid more attention to the drums than anything else. One Day (Drum Cover) – Miliyah Kato feat. M-Flo Japanese | Pop I kind of wish the drums were recorded with better quality (probably because he used electronic drums rather than actual ones) but still a good song to listen to. The cover really incorporates well with the original song. Run Devil Run (Moonie Drum Cover) – SNSD Korean | Pop Oddly enough, I kind of wish the kick drum was a little more prominent in this version. Otherwise, it’s still a good cover of the original. It almost makes me want to listen more to the original (never really got back into listening to SNSD after Genie). Funny Bonus: Sexy Back – Leeteuk and Eunhyuk English-ish | Pop Warning: this isn’t the best quality. Okay. This just makes me laugh every time I hear it – and it isn’t because they don’t really speak English. It’s because they can’t remember the words. Haha. Just a quick little bonus for everyone that needs a laugh (the video’s funnier because you can actually see Leeteuk start to laugh). Labels: Contributor; Carmi, K-On, Kato Miliyah, m-flo, Monkey Majik, So Nyeo Shi Dae, Super Junior, Tohoshinki Sorry for being MIA in the last while. I had to study for finals and that took up a lot of my time. Like my last post, the theme of this post is as though I were in charge of the score for an anime focusing on a magic journey (think older-audience Card Captor Sakura). Magic – Secret (시크릿) Korean| Pop This was actually the song that inspired me to have this theme. Yes, I realize that they’re talking about music but it’s the idea behind music that’s important. It’s catchy but not overly memorable. Genie (Tell Me Your Wish – Robotaki Mashup) – SNSD Korean | Pop I apparently have a thing for remixes/mash ups. It’s one of the more upbeat (can it actually get more upbeat?) versions of the song that ties in more of a techno feel. It almost makes you think of a crazy bunch of SNSD robots…maybe…probably not. Still a good song. Journey – Satomi Japanese | Pop I was actually surprised by her vocals as I hadn’t listened to any of her music previously. It’s surprisingly deep if you compare it to the typical, run-of-the-mill Japanese and Korean singers. I like the jazzy guitar (may be slap base though) that kind of reminds me of a Japanese pop version of George Benson. Nice mellow song. Break Out – Tohoshinki Japanese | Pop And here’s my obligatory DBSK entry. The journey part seems to go along and the whole idea of keeping going even if things get in your way seems appropriate for a rotation about a magical journey. This isn’t one of my favorite songs by them (Doushite and Mirotic take top spots) though (sad considering this is one of the last releases they’ve had). Super Girl – Super Junior Korean | Pop It’s weird…I’ve been on a Super Junior kick lately and this song is no exception. It’s catchy (although not as catchy as “Sorry Sorry”) and I do like the kind of techno feel of the song. I opted to share this version rather than the Chinese one because I liked the flow and the words better. I thought I’d end the rotation with it only because it’s talking about a “Super Girl”. I think I changed the theme of this rotation 3 times in total. Cate suggested a rock theme, which I was going to do for the next rotation and do a J-pop themed rotation this week. I started uploading songs for it, but just felt really uninterested in completing the rotation, so I thought I would do a "surf & turf" theme - half pop, half heavy rock, to incorporate the rock theme. Then I realized I really didn't feel like doing that rotation right now, since I planned it to be fairly large (I will likely save it for the next rotation) ... and so ended up doing a totally unrelated theme. Anyways. After seeing the songs titled Boyfriend and Girlfriend on SNSD's Genie mini album, even though I don't really like SNSD, I got the idea for a rotation with songs with the word "girlfriend" or "boyfriend" in the title. There will probably be less recommended ( ) tracks, since songs were chosen based on title rather than whether I liked them or not. Excuse my crappy comments this week, I promise the next rotation will be better. Please comment/leave a rating if taking. My Girlfriend - Micky Yoochun Korean | Pop A sugary R&B-influenced pop song by DBSK's Micky Yoochun. I've always admired DBSK for their vocals, and while Yoochun's voice is very sweet and warm, the song itself is just so. boring. It doesn't build or lead anywhere, and just sound somewhat lifeless. I guess it's an okay song to just relax to, but I didn't find it engaging at all. Girlfriend ~piano mix version~ - Lee Min Woo ![]() Korean | Pop Ballad I love the original version of this song, but since I figured most of you would already have heard it, I chose this piano mix instead. Minwoo is by far my favourite Shinhwa member, and songs like this are why. This song is even more heartfelt and sorrowful with just a simple, rich piano accompaniment. Minwoo sounds fantastic - his powerful and unique voice adds colour and depth to the song. Boyfriend/Girlfriend - Tanaka Roma ft. Melody Japanese | Pop A sweet pop duet. Melody's soft, delicate voice fits well with Tanaka Roma's warm, strong vocals. Like the title suggests, it's a feel-good song with bright synths and lovely harmonies. Girlfriend - SNSD Korean | Pop While SNSD's previous releases have all failed to catch my attention, I think their Genie mini-album was a slight improvement. Girlfriend is a fairly typical sugary pop song, but I really like the chorus. It's an upbeat song touched with bright synths and sweet vocals. Boyfriend - SNSD Korean | Pop An R&B/hip-hop influenced song. I found it repetitive and quite bland. The girls sound incredibly unconvincing and bored at the beginning of the song - So many boys wanna give it to me, but I want you, boy, give it to me, cause I'm so ready boy, give it to me. The starting lyrics and beat seem to suggest a more mature, sexy feel to the song - yet the vocals throughout the song are cute and childish. The repetitive beat and weak melody, coupled with the annoying siren sounds in the background, just completely ruined the song for me. To Your X-Boyfriend - Lim Chang Jung Korean | Pop Lim Chang Jung is most famous for his ballads, but his powerful, rich voice suits more uptempo songs equally well. An aggressive, strong track with Latin-influenced guitar work. Boyfriend Part II - Crystal Kay Japanese | Pop/R&B I love Crystal Kay. While I really liked the semi-a cappella opening of this song, the rest of the song didn't do much for me. Crystal Kay's voice disappears beneath the heavy beat and electronica-based accompaniment, only coming out in the chorus. The song lacks any real direction and the arrangement comes off as a little jarring and uncoordinated. Dao Shu Di Er Ge Nan Peng You (Count To The No.2 Boyfriend) - Milk Yeh ![]() Mandarin | Pop A really interesting mid-tempo track - there's just something about the percussion that catches your attention, as well as Milk Yeh's light, feathery voice. I thought the song was a little bland upon first listen, but it's starting to grow on me. After Love -First Boyfriend- - Crystal Kay ft. KANAME (Chemistry) Japanese | Pop/R&B Crystal Kay's latest release also sparked this rotation's theme - this song and the "Girlfriend" ft. BoA are all from her newest single. Like many of Crystal Kay's songs, After Love has strong R&B routes. A mid-tempo song, Crystal Kay's strong voice leads the melody with Chemistry's KANAME mostly providing soft harmonies and backing vocals. Personally, I would have liked to hear more of him. While this song was quite good, I didn't find any aspect of it particularly outstanding. Girlfriend - Crystal Kay ft. BoA ![]() Japanese | Pop/R&B BoA and Crystal Kay sound fantastic together. BoA's softer, creamier voice suits Crystal Kay's powerful vocals perfectly. However, BoA sounds slightly nasal in this song, something that I never really noticed in other songs. A strong, memorable song. & some of my favourite Nell songs, as requested by Ayumi. I didn't individually comment on each song, but all are highly recommended, especially Moonlight Punch Romance. And 기억을 걷는 시간. And Fisheye Lens. I always forget how much I love these songs until I hear them again. 기억을 걷는 시간 - Nell ![]() Fisheye Lens - Nell ![]() Moonlight Punch Romance - Nell ![]() 1분만 닥쳐줄래요 - Nell ![]() Labels: Crystal Kay, Lee Min Woo, Lim Chang Jung, Micky Yoochun, Milk Yeh, Nell, So Nyeo Shi Dae, Tanaka Roma Hello! I'm the new cohost, Chayenne. Nice to meet you! My comments aren't the best ever, but I hope you'll like my uploads. So Nyeo Shi Dae – 햅틱모션 (Haptic Motion) Language: Korean Genre: Pop Rating: Comments: This song is made for the Samsung Haptic Motion CF’s featuring So Nyeo Shi Dae and Dong Bang Shin Ki. This is the song you hear all the time. It’s really addictive and the CF as well! Too bad the song is only 1:29 minutes long. You should watch it if you haven’t seen it yet; it’s cute! KAT-TUN - Don't U Ever Stop Language: Japanese Genre: Rock Rating: Comments: It’s really good and it’s got a nice beat! I don't like all the KAT-TUN songs, but this one's just NewS – Summertime Single 1 Summer Time 2 Easy come, easy go 3 Liar 4 Baby! Be my baby Language: Japanese Genre: Pop Rating: Comments: I liked all the songs very much, so I decided to upload the whole single. The first two and the last song really gave me a summer feeling, and I couldn’t stop listening to them. Even though NewS members aren’t the best singers (except for Tegoshi! I love his voice), their voices are nice together and I find their songs always very addictive. Ayaka – Okaeri Language: Japanese Genre: pop Rating: Comments: Her vocals are perfect, as always. It's such a beautiful song- Download and listen yourself! Son Dam Bi – Bad Boy Language: Korean Genre: Pop Rating: Comments: I’ve never heard her before, but after listening to her first mini-album, I fell in love with this song. It’s really catchy and her voice is quite good. I just kept repeating this song, so beware! You should listen to her other songs too. Fahrenheit – Stay With You Language: Japanese Genre: Pop Rating: Comments: This song is for Fahrenheits’ Japanese single. I don’t really like this song. It’s not that interesting and their voices sound a bit off key sometimes. Oh, you can find my playlist at my blog. It's not finished yet, but you can find some stuff already.
